Accessing Medical Services

91勛圖厙 Student Health Services is here to serve the primary care needs of the Xavier student community. There are no office co-pays for routine visits, and all registered students are eligible for care, regardless of insurance coverage.

IMPORTANT: If you are experiencing a medical emergency (i.e., severe chest pain, shortness of breath, serious injury), call 911 or visit the local emergency room.

How do I access Medical Services?

Appointments are preferred and walk-ins are accepted only if time permits. Student Health Services offers in clinic appointments and telemedicine appointments with Xavier University providers and through the Ochsner Healthcare System Virtual Clinic. Students who wish to make an appointment may do so by calling (504) 520-7396.

  • During the initial visit you will complete a new patient packet. This packet can be completed online before your appointment.
  • Please bring a picture ID and your insurance card.
  • Please bring a list of all current medications that you take. Please specify the name of the medication, dosage amount, and how often it is taken.
  • A nominal fee is assessed for certain services and procedures offered e.g. TB Skin test, certain clinical procedures and medical supplies. These fees can be paid at the time of the visit are billed directly to the student’s account and paid at a later date.
  • Off campus services, e.g. laboratory test, x-rays, prescriptions, referrals, etc. are the responsibility of the student. You should always present with your insurance card or be prepared to pay.

Eligibility

Eligibility to receive care in Student Health Services is determined by enrollment status.

Students are eligible for treatment as defined below:

  • Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the university during fall, spring and summer semesters.
  • Graduates of the current year may receive limited services after the last day of class for assistance with transition of care to a community provider if needed.
  • Partnered students enrolled in a contractual academic program with the university.

Xavier Faculty/Staff, Partner Program Employees are eligible for limited access as defined below:

  • Faculty/staff and Partner Program Employees are eligible for acute crisis emergency intervention. 
  • Xavier Faculty/staff who require on-going care will be referred to a community provider.
  • Partner Program Employees who require on-going care will be referred to a community provider.
