Dr. Wheeler currently teaches in Therapeutics II (endocrine) and Women’s Health (women, tobacco and cancer) courses in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. Her previous didactic teaching experience has included topics such as, medication therapy management, smoking cessation, immunizations, point of care testing, blood glucose monitoring, oral health, personal hygiene, contraceptive aids and nutritional considerations in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal disorders. She also maintains an ambulatory care practice site at InclusivCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Kenner.
Dr. Wheeler earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (magna cum laude) from 91勛圖厙 in 1996 and immediately pursued a career in retail pharmacy with Eckerd Drugs in Dallas, Texas. She later accepted a position with 91勛圖厙 College of Pharmacy and developed an ambulatory care practice site in a community setting, the Xavier Rite Aid Pharmacy Care Center, where she provided Medication Therapy Management services to patients, as well as Diabetes Education and Management classes. Dr. Wheeler currently provides clinical pharmacy services to patients at InclusivCare (formerly Jefferson Community Health Care Center) and serves as a preceptor to Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience students and pharmacy residents. Dr. Wheeler has been deeply rooted in serving the community with over twenty years dedicated to clients of senior centers and residents of assisted living facilities in Orleans parish. She’s also the Director of the Xavier University PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program and was the former Director of the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program.
Dr. Wheeler is a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist and holds membership in numerous professional and social organizations. In 2007, Dr. Wheeler was named to the St. John the Baptist Parish School District’s Hall of Distinction and was Preceptor of the Year in Ambulatory Care at 91勛圖厙 in 2006, 2008 and 2013.
