Dr. Al-Horani joined the College of Pharmacy at 91勛圖厙 in August 2016.
He earned his B.Pharm. degree from University of Jordan in the year of 2000. He also earned his M.Sc. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2003 from the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Jordan. In 2007, he was granted the 2-year Fulbright predoctoral scholarship sponsored by the US Department of State to pursue his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Pharmacy of Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Al Horani’s postdoctoral training was supported by a competitive research fellowship from the American Heart Association. Dr. Al-Horani’s research interests revolve around the discovery, design, and development of cardiovascular agents and antimicrobial agents, with an interest in antithrombotics, antifibrinolytics, and antivirals. His research efforts in these areas led to several peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings, research abstracts, invited presentations, book chapters, international patents, and invention disclosures. At Xavier College of Pharmacy, Dr. Al-Horani focuses on academic aspects of relevance to minority communities through teaching, research, and service. Dr. Al-Horani has served as Judge for the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students, reviewer for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals, and panelist for the US National Science Foundation. Dr. Al-Horani is the recipient of multiple awards at local, state, and national levels including the 2012 SOP VCU J. Doyle Smith award, the 2012 SOP VCU Charles T. Rector and Thomas W. Rorrer, Jr. Dean's award, the 2016 VCU Donald and Nancy Abraham research award, and the 2019 Louisiana Biomedical Research Network best faculty poster award. At Xavier, Dr. Al-Horani’s research has been funded by NIH-funded institutional programs and NIH-funded state programs including Research Centers in Minority Institutions program at Xavier and Louisiana Biomedical Research Network.
