MICHESS Center

Vision

MICHESS is a collaborative research center between Xavier faculty. Also, the Center collaborates with faculty from other Universities, as well as industry and national laboratories. Our unifying theme is to develop critical knowledge regarding atomic diffusion and chemical interactions at the interfaces and interphases that can be used to create materials and processes with coordinated developments in modeling.

RG 1. Synthesizing new polymeric materials and understanding ionic transport and charge/mass transfer along surfaces (or interphases) and across interfaces (or interphases) to develop rechargeable lightweight solid-state lithium metal batteries based on conversion-type cathodes with dramatically higher energy density than state of the art and exceptional safety characteristics.

IRG 2. Studying transport in room temperature ionic liquid  (RTIL) gel/semiconductor (SC) systems to develop lightweight electrochemical sensor arrays capable of measuring concentrations of critical gases in real-time to monitor the environment for personal safety.

Energy Storage Pipeline. Prepare underrepresented minority (URM) students in the area of Energy Storage, Sustainability,  and Sensors. Students worked on a specific project for two to four years and learned various skills in lithium-ion and metal batteries.
