A Message to Students from Provost McCall

I write now to bring you up to date on a few important modifications that our Academic Affairs Planning Council recommended on Friday and that, with a few modifications, our University Academic Council, acting as Executive Committee to the University Academic Assembly, approved Saturday evening as emergency measures for this semester.

They involve our academic calendar, the deadline for dropping courses, and grading:

A) Academic Calendar:We are extending the semester’s class schedule by two days so that we can make up the class sessions that were missed this past week. Thursday courses will meet on Tuesday, April 28, and Friday courses will meet on Wednesday, April 29. Thursday, April 30 will be our Quiet Day, and exams will begin on Friday, May 1. Please find attached our new academic calendar.

B)Drop Deadline:We are extending our deadline to drop courses to Friday, April 3rd. Students who have turned in drop forms this past week but who would like to reconsider that decision will have the opportunity to retract that request.

If students have already submitted a request to drop a course and wish to have the course reinstated, they should send an email message with your full name, 900 number and the course to be reinstated to the Office of the Registrar (regis@xula.edu). The subject line should be, "Request to Reinstate Course." Studentswho wish to have their courses reinstated should immediatelyresume attending those classes.

C)Grading:We are providing students with the ability to request to be graded on a Pass/D/F basis. Students interested in this option need to opt-in by April 3rd, as the default will otherwise be to receive letter grades. Students will receive a Qualtrics survey via email on Monday, March 30 for this purpose and need to fill it out and submit it to take advantage of this opportunity. Please note that we strongly urge our students to consult with faculty, advisors, and the pre-medical advising office before making this choice.

Thank you for your commitment to Xavier and to learning.

Sincerely,

Anne McCall

Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs
