As 91Թ embarks upon its centennial, its powerful legacy becomes a much bolder vision. The university has been at the foundation of historic culture-shifting outcomes, careers, events and culture-shifting outcomes. With legacy comes responsibility for growth, improvement, and support. The university’s annual social media-driven fundraiser Give.Love.Xavier Day, themed this year “Support the Legacy,” extends the opportunity to alumni, friends, and corporate and foundation partners to uplift Xavier’s legacy of excellence by making a financial gift to ensure the next generation of Xavierites can soar.
Give.Love.Xavier (GLX) Day, or “GLX2024,” will be held on Tuesday, April 9, from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Donations can be made online at , by calling (504) 520-7575 or by mailing a check to 91Թ at 1 Drexel Drive, Box 66, New Orleans, LA 70125. Give.Love.Xavier aids the nation’s only historically Black and Catholic university in meeting its current and most pressing needs associated with providing need-based financial assistance for students, developing innovative programs, improving learning technology and software, offering food security to the campus community, and elevating campus wellness and infrastructure. Last year, these efforts brought in nearly $1 million.
This year’s theme, “Support the Legacy,” reflects on Xavier’s long history of producing Black excellence through its students, many of whose achievements are lauded and recognized today. Xavier graduates have become university presidents, federal judges, doctors, professors, pharmacists, high-level officials in the military, Congress members, and even a U.S. Cabinet Secretary and the U.S. Surgeon General, among many other impressive positions. Some make Black history with accolades such as MacArthur Genius grants and The U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, and others change the world simply by living the legacy.
“Give.Love.Xavier Day is for anyone who believes in the power of HBCUs,” said Kimberly Reese (‘95), Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement at 91Թ. “Our alumni are shining examples of what an HBCU education at Xavier means to the world, and this one day is an opportunity for people to make an investment in the strides of our future leaders.”
Xavier’s Office of Alumni Relations launched the Give.Love.Xavier initiative 11 years ago to strengthen alumni engagement. Since then, GLX has raised more than $6 million with the help of more than 18,000 donors throughout the years.
Participants are encouraged to post about GLX via social networks (such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) to spread the excitement while encouraging their friends and followers to give.
