Student Health Insurance / Waiver Information

For all students, good health is essential to achieving educational goals. Because maintaining good health requires access to health care when you need it, 91勛圖厙 Student Health Insurance is Mandatory for all Undergraduate students.

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the University Student Health Insurance plan must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days after the date of which coverage is purchased. Home study, correspondence, and online courses do not fulfill the Eligibility requirements that the student actively attend classes. The insurance Company maintains its right to investigate Eligibility or student status and attendance records to verify that the requirements have not been met.

Dependents: Eligible students who do enroll may also insure their Dependents. Eligible Dependents are the student's spouse, dependent children or grandchild (who is in the legal custody of and residing with the eligible student)

Graduate students are eligible to enroll in this insurance plan - please Create an Account and complete the Graduate Student Direct Pay Enroll application at 

Exception: The Physician Assistant Program requires its students to be automatically enrolled in the school-sponsored student insurance and they are required to complete a waiver form at  during the waiver period.

Study Abroad students: If you are insured with the student insurance plan you are eligible for UnitedHealthcare Global Emergency Services. (Refer to your certificate of coverage) It is the recommendation of Student Health Services that students studying abroad purchase international health/travel insurance.

International Students & Scholars: Students and Scholars holding an F1 or J1 Visa - refer to the Exchange Visitor Program regulations  or visit 91勛圖厙 Center for Intercultural and International Programs website @ www. xula.edu/ciip

Student Health Insurance Waiver: Students with insurance that provides coverage in the New Orleans area for both physician office visit as well as the emergency room may waive the University Student Health plan. This waiver requirement must be met each year during the Fall semester or in the Spring for students enrolling for the first time in January during the open waiver period. (see website for open waiver dates) Failure to complete the online waiver form at  will result in the student's automatic enrollment in the University Student Health plan and the premium charged to the student's account. All charges are final.
